Good leadership is hard to measure on a daily basis which is why so many default to doing what’s easy to measure instead

I read this quote from Simon Sinek this week which I thought was really on point for business today.  Every business needs to have focus on achieving results to survive and having the ability to establish the contribution of its people is crucial.


And what if your organisation is finding it hard to measure good leadership?  It got me thinking about how we can measure our own leadership.  What are some of the key signs we can watch out for and use to benchmark how we are doing as a leader?  Here are 15 signs to help you see how your leadership measures up.
  1. You have a belief that people are capable of more than they think - You see more in them that they see in themselves.
  2. People all around you know that you care about them and want them to succeed -
  3. You talk more about the future than the past, Speed of execution.
  4. Mistakes are embraced as an outcome of where you are and are always based as a learning opportunity
  5. You know you could light up a room with your presence, and you know you don’t have to, you stay true to yourself.
  6. You exercise your mind and your body every day, also developing and exercising your senses daily.
  7. Your personal goals scare you ( Huge unbelievable goals)
  8. You choose when to share your knowledge wisely and are wise enough to know when not to share it
  9. People say they have more energy when you are around - Culture changes when your around. Bringing the best out of people.
  10. You don’t have all the answers and you’re totally fine with that, where you don't have all the answers you will quickly find the person who has the answers to what you do not know.
  11. People know your values and see you acting from them every day- Its what creates who you are..
  12. You talk more about ‘the Why’ and ‘the When’ and are happy to delegate ‘the How’
  13. You are completely present with the person you are with, always in the moment with that person, listening attentively. 
  14. You listen and connect first and you talk second
  15. People know when they have let you down and are left knowing how to put things right.
